Pedestrian Guardrail

Alpha Rail are one of the U.K's leading manufacturer's of both standard and decorative Pedestrian Guardrails.

For almost 25 years we have been the preferred supplier to many Local Authorities and Civil Engineering Contractors who choose Alpha Rail based upon quality products and a high level of customer service. Using all of our experience we are able to offer sound advice on suitable solutions when specifying Pedestrian Guardrail.

The most basic and cost effective form of Pedestrian Guardrails are our unit panel designs which are available as a full height version (model M1) or a sight gap version (model M2). The size of the infill bars can be increased to 16 dia (Model R1/R2), 20 dia (Model N1/N2) or 12sq (Model P1/P2) to suit additional loading requirements. All of our pedestrian guardrails satisfy the requirements B.S. 7818 : 1995.

They are normally supplied in standard bay sizes of 2m and 1m although special length, radiused and raked panels can be provided. The basic finish is hot dipped galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461 : 1999 with options for a polyester powder coated finish available (to BS 6497).

Infill bars on the above designs can be offset to increase visibility. The above models will be known as SM1 & SM2 should the staggered bar option be required.

OPTIRAIL™ HIGH VISIBILITY PEDESTRIAN GUARDRAIL

For the ultimate in high visibility guardrail our Optirail system is the answer. The basic function of pedestrian guardrail is to guide pedestrians to safe crossing points. It is a fact however, that conventional guardrail will at certain approach angles obscure small children or animals from approaching motorists. Thus, posing a danger at crossing points. A similar problem applies to drivers turning right at junctions. The purpose of Optirail is to dramatically improve the intervisibility of pedestrian guardrail. The basic objectives are therefore achieved without penalty.

Selection Criteria

Optirail panels are manufactured in three main types, to optimise maximum visibility with any situation.

Notes

1. *V4 is the main general purpose version giving good intervisibility in most situations.
2. All models available with sight gap.

Unless it is evident which panel types are necessary, the following procedure based on reference to a site plan is recommended:

• Locate the driver at the minimum stopping distance from the end of the Optirail.
• Determine the angle at which the driver must look through The Optirail (the sight angle)
• • Select the appropriate Optirail panel from the adjacent table.

Optirail is available only from Alpha Rail.

Optirail improves visibility by a factor of 3!

• To see
• To be seen
• To take evasive action

Optirail is normally orientated to traffic in the adjacent lane. Panels can be inverted to reverse the viewing envelope.

Standard panels at 2m post centres are suitable for radii down to 9m. Below this 1m post centres are recommended. Raked panels and special length panels are available.

The benefits of the Optirail system can also be utilised within a decorative feature panel system as shown on the drawing below.
