Pedestrian Parapet – A36 Rossiter Road, Bath

Location:

Bath

Project Overview

Bath and North East Somerset Council was embarking on a highways scheme to improve traffic flow along the A36 in the centre of Bath. The improvement involved changes to traffic direction, new traffic signal junctions, the widening of footways to enable a cycle lane, the replacement of existing footways and new pedestrian ramps.

The overall aim was to divert traffic away from around Widcombe Parade and create a more pleasant environment for shoppers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Alpha Rail Solution

Alpha Rail was appointed by the principal contractor ERH Communications Ltd, one of the country’s leading privately owned communication, technology & civil engineering contractors.

We supplied pedestrian parapet and mounted handrails for the pedestrian walkways, ramps and retaining wall. The project was quite complex and involved intricate measurement to ensure the required rakes and radius were accurate.

In total, we supplied 73 metres of 1100mm high pedestrian parapet including 9 two metre sections with a vision panel to ensure drivers could see pedestrians approaching the walkways. All metalwork was supplied galvanised and polyester powder coated black.

Mounting base plates were fitted to a concrete retaining wall using chemical anchors. Cantilevered circular hollow section handrail was fixed to a ramped area.

"I found Alpha Rail online and was impressed with their project credentials and so recommended them for the project. The estimator came to site and conducted a thorough survey and I was really impressed when the parapet arrived and everything fitted perfectly with absolutely no modifications required during installation. The whole process was well managed and delivered with exceptional attention to detail and customer satisfaction"
