Railings Enhance Stunning Kings Lynn Park

Every town and city should benefit from a public space as beautiful as ‘The Walks’ in King’s Lynn, which dates back almost 800 years. As a public park, The Walks consists of stunning tree lined avenues covering a 27 acre expanse, right in the heart of King’s Lynn.

New railings were required as part of The Walks Restoration Project, which is being organized by King’s Lynn Council and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Walks

The work involves the replacement of gates and railings, the installation of new play equipment, the replacement of benches and bins, as well as bridge repairs and tree replacements. Careful consideration was given to the railings, which have been supplied by Nottinghamshire-based Alpha Rail to the main contractor UCS. The bespoke metalwork manufacturer produced guard rail and bow top fencing to run around much of the perimeter of the park, alongside the tree lined avenues, to the side of the Norman church and around the Seven Sisters – a circular arrangement of lime trees with religious significance. Special knee-height trip rail was incorporated into the design, which involved a single bar rail which allowed walkers to enjoy the beauty of the park, whilst protecting the many grassed areas.

The park is widely used by local people and visitors to the area and its facilities include tennis and basketball courts, children’s playground and recreation areas where people can spend their leisure time in the beauty and tranquility of this stunning mature parkland.

Phil Ball, Sales Director at Alpha Rail, explains: “The Walks is a public park designed and used by local people. The restoration work has certainly helped to enhance the look of the park and the railings and gates complement its style, without detracting from its beauty. The overall effect is stunning and the robust construction of the railings should ensure that local people can enjoy the park and its facilities for many centuries to come.”

Paul Turner, Site Agent for The Walks project from UCS, said: “This was a really exciting project to be involved with. We have worked with Alpha Rail before and knew the quality of their work and that we could be assured the work would be completed on time. We were also delighted to be able to keep the park open throughout its restoration, to ensure that people could enjoy its facilities at all times. We were also awarded Considerate Contractor for this project, something which we are really proud of.”

Alpha Rail, which is based in Nottinghamshire, has extensive experience in park and garden restoration.
