Health and safety regulations and the rules of various sports governing bodies are beginning to dictate that sports grounds install protective railings and barriers around sports pitches to partition spectators and athletes.

Eastbourne United AFC who play in the Sussex County Football League recently stumbled across the website of a metal railings and fencing manufacturer Alpha Rail and were delighted to find out that their standard pedestrian guard rail is an excellent alternative choice to help lower league clubs affected by the rules to create a suitable partition in a very safe and cost effective manner.

Commenting, John Pinyoun/Brian Dowling said, “The club had obtained a number of quotes from specialist suppliers and having found Alpha Rail during an internet search we were delighted that they could offer an alternative solution at a significant saving to the club. We can now put this saving towards further ground improvements and training facilities.”

A pitch side barrier must comply with the guidelines set out in the ‘Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds’. The Alpha Rail pedestrian guardrail is not approved for use as a crowd barrier, but it is quality approved and strength graded to meet the criteria set for pitch side barriers.
