mild steel galvanized 'Swan Neck' Railings

The war memorial located within Hednesford Park in Staffordshire has undergone a refurbishment. Our ability to provide bespoke architectural metalwork for war memorial railings restoration projects has led to Alpha Rail being called in to manufacture and supply matching metal railings to replace those that had been damaged beyond repair.

Dating back to 1922, Hednesford War Memorial contains the names of soldiers who died in the both the First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War. A grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled Cannock Council to restore and make improvements to the memorial. The works have included new pathways to link the cemetery to other parts of Hednesford Park, replanting with new shrubs, resurfacing the paths, trimming trees, and restoration of metal railings and the entrance gates and pillars.

Specialist landscaping and civil engineering company, Jack Moody LCE Limited was the appointed contractor. Commenting, Robbie Seagrove, Quantity Surveyor said, “This was a high profile project with lots of vested interest from the local community. It was important that the design of the metal railings closely matched to the existing railings. Alpha Rail was the number one choice due to our past experience of their attention detail and high quality manufacturing process.”

Jack Moody LCE Limited was partnering with Barr & Grosvenor Ltd, a Wolverhampton-based family run foundry and machine shop manufacturer which specialises in architectural conservation involving metalwork. Peter Scholes, Principal Landscape & Countryside Officer at Cannock Chase Council was the overall landscape architect/project manager.

Commenting, Phil Ball, Sales Director with Alpha Rail said, “This is a highly visited war memorial, particularly on Remembrance Sunday, when locals gather to pay respects to those who had lost their lives fighting for their freedom. We appreciated the importance of ensuring the newly manufactured railings were a close match in design and that exceptional finishing quality was required to stand the test of time.”

In total, over 150 linear metres of 1600 high swan neck railings were replaced with railings, bespoke manufactured by Alpha Rail to closely match the existing style and design.
