Metal railings have been installed as part of the refurbishment and extension of a Grade II listed building that is now a nursing home.

Home of Compassion, in Thames Ditton, Surrey was built circa 1786 for the Hon. Charlotte Boyle Walsingham. It was granted Grade II status in 1953 because of the intactness of its brickwork frontage and some of the interiors were rare examples of 18th and 19th century fittings including staircases, scagliola columns, marble fireplaces and cornices.

In 1905 the house and land was purchased by the Church of England Community of the Compassion of Jesus and was renamed the Home of Compassion, the main house becoming a nursing home.

Now owned by Caring Homes Group, the impressive Grade II mansion has been recently restored and extended to create an extremely comfortable up-to-the-minute care home which sets new standards for care.

Alpha Rail was appointed by the building contractors MP Brothers Limited to manufacture and install interlaced bow topped railings.

In total we installed 84 linear metres of 1200mm high and 143 linear metres of 1500mm high interlaced bow top railings. The centre mounting pillars featured a round ball finial and were set into concrete foundations on either paved areas or into flower beds and grassed areas.

In order to be in keeping with the landscape and building aesthetics the metal railings were galvanized and polyester powder coated moss green RAL 6005.

A small lake is a key feature of the building exterior and some railings were installed around its perimeter to provide a protective barrier between the water and residents who may be taking a walk in the tranquillity of the gardens. Railings also lined walkways and flower beds and we also supplied four single leaf gates.

Commenting on the project, Bhupesh Halai said, “This was the first time we have used Alpha Rail having found then using an internet search. Alpha Rail provided a very good service, the people were fantastic and everything went as planned. We will have no hesitation in using them again.”
