As part of its commitment to encouraging people to get out and use outdoor spaces such as parks and gardens, Alpha Rail has sponsored a local youth football team. Based in Kirkby in Ashfield, Alpha Rail specialises in the manufacture and installation of bespoke metal railings and gates. The sponsorship deal involves providing a new football kit for Sherwood Colliery Blacks Under 9’s.

Sherwood Colliery FC was established in 2008 but the young under 9’s team was only formed three years ago, with many of the youngsters being the same group that started as six year olds. The team is managed by FA licenced coach, Steve Newbury and play their games in Mansfield Woodhouse as part of the Mansfield Kick start league which comprises teams from all around the local area

Due to its local reputation and their work in the community, the U9’s were recently invited to the One Call Stadium to be flag bearers for the League Two game between Mansfield Town and Grimsby Town.

This playing record and community reputation also convinced Alpha Rail to make a financial contribution to help the club purchase shirts, shorts and socks for 10 players as well as training jackets for the children to wear in winter.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Mark Sipson, Alpha Rail Finance Director said “When we heard about the work the club does in the local community we wanted to try and help in any way we could. It is our privilege to help fund a local team and hopefully enable the next “Messi” or “Ronaldo” to enjoy the beautiful game.”

Team manager Steve Newbury added “It is local community relationships like this that enables the club to keep doing what we love. Without their help, we wouldn’t be able to provide the boys with the opportunities they deserve. We can’t thank Mark and Alpha Rail enough for their support.”

Sherwood Colliery under 9’s has many plans for the future, and if it can continue to raise enough money, the club would like to take players on tour to compete in tournaments as well as arrange a coaching session at St Georges Park, the home of English football.
