Work on a new £4m access road at a new business park in Hucknall features Optirail high visibility pedestrian guardrail manufactured by Alpha Rail.

The road, funded by Nottinghamshire County Council, will act as the main entrance for the new Harrier Park Hucknall development off the A611 and for vehicles accessing the Rolls-Royce site.

Appointed by A &A Lamb, a fencing sub contractor on the project, Alpha Rail provided 33 linear metres of Optirail V2 which is a staggered bar system with optimum sight angle of 2.5 to 5 degrees, for use on straight roads moderate to high speeds.

The County Council supported the link road from its capital programme, ensuring that the scheme was viable and enabling the development to maximise the community benefits from the wider development. Galliford Try is the main contractor for the construction of the road. The County Council is working in partnership with Rolls-Royce, their development partner Muse Developments and Nottingham City and Ashfield District Councils to deliver the overall scheme, which will create over 2000 jobs and also includes 900 homes, a primary school, a care home, green space and other community facilities.

The Optirail™ high visibility guardrail system is only available from Alpha Rail and was specifically developed to dramatically improve the inter-visibility of pedestrian guardrail and deliver the optimum in safety and visibility options to the highways planner.

Commenting, Phil Ball, Alpha Rail Sales Director said, “Pedestrian guardrail is one of Alpha Rail’s most popular products, which is why we keep all models in our core range in stock for a fast turnaround time. We are one of the leading manufacturers of pedestrian guardrail in the UK and are the preferred supplier to many local authorities and leading building and civil engineering companies.  We are delighted to be involved in this project and look forward to its final completion later this year.”

Work on the final leg of the road has already started and is scheduled for completion by the early summer and Alpha Rail hopes to supply further quantities of Optirail high visibility pedestrian guardrail.
