Flat Top metal railings required for Stephens House regeneration project

Bespoke flat top metal railings and gates have been installed as part of the regeneration works that will see dramatic changes take place at the Grade II listed Stephens House – Avenue House Estate and Gardens.

The stately house, located in Finchley, North London was built in 1859, and the land itself dates back to the 12th Century having significant ties to the Knights Templar.

In 1989, Stephens House was ravaged by fire and since then significant works are in progress to restore the property back to its original state. The hope is that the changes made will provide a modern facility, capable of hosting conferences, business functions and in particular, a lavish wedding venue.

To help fund the project, £2.1m was awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with a further £250,000 committed by Barnet Council. The funding will help to re-establish key views within the gardens, with repairs being made to the walls, footpaths, metal railings and gates.

Alpha Rail was contracted by Ground Control UK to supply and deliver decorative Flat Top metal railings in addition to bespoke trip rail.

After visiting the site to conduct a thorough survey and take measurements, Alpha Rail supplied 34 metres of 870mm high double flat top metal railings. The top rails featured a decorative circular effect hooped insert and finished with a striking spear shaped finial.

To deter visitors from walking on planted areas within the garden, 80 metres of 400mm high trip rail was installed. Each mounting post also featured a laser profiling effect to give a further decorative appeal.

In addition, a new 2 metre high decorative double leaf gate was manufactured. The gate was positioned underneath an archway and required particular attention to detail during the site survey and measurement process.

All metalwork provided was supplied and delivered galvanised and polyester powder coated Black RAL 9005 in keeping with other garden furniture.

Commenting on behalf of Ground Control UK, Tom Bruce said, “I have worked with Alpha Rail for a number of years now and they have always provided me with an exceptional service. The products they supply are delivered in a timely manner and are always of the highest quality.”

Phil Ball, Sales Director at Alpha Rail added “Although we only play a small part in an overall project, I am proud that the products Alpha Rail manufacture really add an authentic finish and help bring iconic estates like Stephens House and Gardens back to life.”
