Pedestrian Guardrail provides loading bay barriers for fruit distributor in Oxfordshire

Pedestrian guardrail manufactured by Alpha Rail have been installed to provide safer loading bay barriers and pedestrian walkway segregation at the headquarters of a global wholesale food and drink distribution centre based in Oxfordshire.

The company is an online fruit and vegetable distributor that has grown its presence across the world. In 2010, an investment from major supermarket chain allowed the company to expand operations across six locations in the UK, including sites in Cambridge, London, Glasgow, Wigan and Norwich. The company headquarters is located in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Building contractors SBS & Sons from Nottingham had been appointed by the company to complete construction works at the Bicester HQ which also involved improving site safety. A particular requirement was the need for better segregation between areas used by both pedestrians and vehicles loading and unloading deliveries.

Having seen a loading bay barriers solution they liked at a logistics site in Mansfield that had used pedestrian guardrail, Alpha Rail was contracted to manufacture and supply 250 linear metres of M1 pedestrian guardrail. The guardrail was supplied galvanised and polyester powder coated in RAL colour code 1023 traffic yellow for increased high visibility.SBS & Sons carried out the installation which was done using metal based plates chemically anchored into the tarmac and pavement areas.

Commenting on the way Alpha Rail dealt with his enquiry, Tom Shaw from SBS & Sons said “After seeing a loading bay barriers solution we liked at another site in Mansfield we approached Alpha Rail and asked them to quote to manufacture a similar pedestrian guardrail system. Alpha Rail has solved a safety issue and provided a robust system that met the specification.”
