Alpha Rail balustrade has helped provide a protective boundary around a Next retail unit.
Given the go-ahead in 2016, the £12m project at Marsh Mills retail park promises to create 140 jobs. Next is the largest clothing retailer in the United Kingdom with over 500 stores across the United Kingdom and around 700 worldwide – the new store will provide shoppers with a new place to buy clothes, footwear and home products.
This destination store will be the first of its size in the South-West, featuring three floors, and a fully automated click-and-collect centre. With its size, the Next store is also set to have a large Costa, allowing visitors to refresh and grab something to eat and drink after a day of shopping. International retailer Paperchase will also open a store inside the unit, offering stationary, diaries, cards and gift-wrap.
Alpha Rail was contracted by RTS Construction Group to supply and install 136 linear metres of flat top balustrade, along with 4.1 linear metres of central handrail to suit steps and ramps. The materials were galvanised followed by a polyester powder coat in RAL 7012 basalt grey, and then installed along a pedestrian walkway between split level car parks. This boundary will ensure that shoppers are safely guided along the footpaths and are kept separate from the busy car park.
Commenting on the project, Mike Lambert from RTS Construction Group said: “The Next Home branch opening at Marsh Mills is going to be a fantastic new location for Plymouth shoppers. We contacted Alpha Rail as we needed a metalwork solution for the car park footpaths that matched the aesthetics of the new store as well as providing a safe boundary for customers. The process with Alpha Rail was smooth and we are very pleased with the results. Many thanks to everyone involved”.
