Royal Botanic Gardens (RBG) Kew, also known as Kew Gardens is a world-famous location situated only 30 minutes away from the centre of London. The UNESCO World Heritage site features some 50,000 living plants including exotic plants and fungi and is recognised as the most biodiverse and largest living collections on earth. It is a top visitor attraction in London with over 2.1 million visitors per year.
With ongoing science and conservation work, there are always events being held, allowing visitors to come and learn about the garden’s research that contribute to large international programmes. RBG Kew is also home to some unique and fantastic architecture both and new, namely the Princess of Wales Conservatory and Temple of Aeolus, which is a Grade II listed building.
Following a two-year redevelopment project at Kew’s Pavilion Restaurant, a brand new Pavilion Bar and Grill has recently opened its doors to the public, allowing visitors to get a coffee, fresh juice or alcoholic drinks later in the day, along with a food menu.
To add the finishing touches to the new eatery, Alpha Rail was appointed to supply and install bespoke metalwork to the perimeter. In total, 180 linear metres of flat top metal railings were installed. These were galvanised and polyester powder coated in RAL 9005 jet black. They were made bespoke to have mesh across the bottom half of the panel with the purpose of blocking litter from blowing away into the park.
Commenting on the project, architect at Land Use Consultants Katie Duff said: “LUC are very familiar with Alpha Rail, having specified their metalwork products for many projects over the years, so it was decided during a meeting with the client that Alpha Rail were to be specified on this project. We are very pleased with the finished product which fulfilled all the requirements of our brief.”
Phil Ball, Sales Director at Alpha Rail commented: “Here at Alpha Rail we are very proud to have our metalwork products specified by landscape architects, which over the last 34 years has given us the opportunity to work in some of the most prestigious places in the UK. We can now add Kew Gardens to the list!”
