Metal Railings installed at Brighton school following newly built entrance and DDA compliant ramp

Located in the seaside city of Brighton and Hove, St. Bartholomew’s C E Primary School recently underwent work to build a brand-new main entrance and DDA access ramp. The Christian primary school, which is adjacent to St. Bartholomew’s church, is home to pupils aged five to 11 from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds.

The school, which has been recognised as a good school by OFSTED, strongly believes in being inclusive and welcoming to all parents and children. In order to reflect and represent this visually, they contacted West Sussex-based Building and Electrical Contractors Closewall Ltd, who specialise in construction and refurbishment services.

The newly designed main entrance took a modern approach, featuring dark brickwork and large windows to fit in with its environment and the adjacent church building. Further to this, a new staircase to the main doors and along with a DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant access ramp for those with limited mobility.

For the boundary of the entrance, Closewall came to Alpha Rail for some metal railings after being specified by the architect, Felce & Guy Partnership. In total, 20 linear metres of flat bar infill railings and 6 linear metres of single metal handrail was supplied and installed to the new entrance, galvanised and polyester powder coated in grey to match the style of the building. The metalwork will provide a safe boundary to the entrance and assist people when getting up the stairs or ramp.

Commenting, David Treharne from Closewall Ltd said: “After being specified by the architect for this project, we got in touch with Alpha Rail and they were quick to provide us with a quotation after seeing a picture on their website that met our requirements. The metal railings that have been installed look great around the entrance and works well with the overall modern style of the extension.”

Katie Blood, head teacher at the school also commented: “We are delighted with the new entrance and believe it will help us showcase our welcoming and friendly attitude when it comes to our parents and children.”
