Project Overview

Alpha Rail has matched existing vertical bar railings at the prestigious Chatsworth House site in order to retain the aesthetics and provide a secure boundary to the park.

Built in 1560 and located in the heart of Derbyshire, Chatsworth House is one of the UK’s favourite country houses. Seeing over 600,000 paying visitors per year, and even more who enjoy the park and woodland for free, the ever-popular location is ideal for walking and enjoying the nature, as well as seeing the fantastic pieces of history within the house itself.

Having previously been secured with a wooden fence and evergreen planting, both solutions had been unsuccessful. As a result, they were left with a gap where animals could get through. Close by, there were some existing metal railings that were set into ornamental base stones – Chatsworth House Trust decided that they would like to match these historic railings in order to continue the aesthetics that tied in with the overall style of the estate.

Alpha Rail Solution

In total, 71 linear metres of bespoke vertical bar railings were supplied and installed to match the existing metalwork on site. These were diamond drilled into the ornamental base stones and utilised backstays in order to provide maximum rigidity in the metalwork. The vertical bar railings were galvanised as standard, following a polyester powder coat in ‘BS 18 C 39 Ocean Blue’ – a special colour that was used to match the distinct blue that is used across the estate.

"All of our dealings with the Alpha Rail team have been positive and constructive. They overcame any challenges and delivered a high-quality product, all on budget and on time. Alpha Rail have succeeded in helping us retain the aesthetics of the estate, which is a key element to keep these stately homes as they were originally, so they can be enjoyed by generations to come."
