Project Overview

Hednesford Park and War Memorial is located in Hednesford, to the East of Cannock, Staffordshire. It is currently undergoing a three-year plan to improve facilities.

Alpha Rail was involved in part of the Hednesford Regeneration scheme, developed between the Council and Property Developer St Modwens. This involved the demolition of various buildings and the former bus station, realignment of Victoria Street, and the construction of several new retail stores and commercial outlets.

This redevelopment resulted in loss of the original main park access and boundary resulting in a requirement for new access points for both vehicle, pedestrian and cycle access. This work was undertaken by PM Harris as part of their main contract for St Modwens.

Alpha Rail Solution

For the Hednesford Park part of the project, Alpha Rail was appointed by PM Harris to supply 300 linear metres of boundary railings and two sets of double leaf and one single pedestrian gate on a hydraulic closer mechanism.  The gates and railings were supplied galvanised and powder coated in black, and the gates featured the park name and year that it was opened together with the Cannock Chase Council logo in gold lettering.

Alpha Rail manufactured bespoke square bar metal railings for installation along the boundary to the park, linking the various new entrances. These railings featured a rounded ball finial that was powder coated in gold and a horizontal bar for added strength and decorative effect.

The gates and railings were designed  principally with John Cutts of Landscape by Design as part of the overall regeneration project in consultation with the Council. The gate pillars reflecting the design of the pillars on the adjacent war memorial, whilst the new railings picking up elements of the original park railings.

Alpha rail also supplied, as part of the Hednesford regeneration project, 52 linear metres of pedestrian parapet style metal railings for areas where the terrain featured banked areas of grass as well as decorative balustrade for elevated walkways and handrails mounted on walls, built at the side of stairwells leading down to car parks.

"“The designs featured a number of bespoke decorative effects and we have been delighted with how Alpha Rail responded to the design brief by helping us bring these ideas to life. The park railings have lifted the appearance of the park for residents and visitors alike, helping to create new and very visual access points and boundaries.”"
