Project Overview

Starting in 2012, Nottingham City Council (NCC) and Nottingham City Homes (NCH) are working together on a four year programme to transform Nottingham’s neighbourhoods. The Build a Better Nottingham programme will see more than 350 council new build properties across the city.

Work started in 2012 on the first phase of the programme, which includes 26 properties built on four disused sites across the city.

A recent £2.85m phase was carried out by Woodhead Living, the specialist sustainable arm of Nottinghamshire-based construction firm, Robert Woodhead Limited and involved Alpha Rail in a residential development at the Henning Gardens and Windmill Close.

Alpha Rail Solution

Alpha Rail was appointed to provide bespoke metal railings and front garden entrance gates for two of the developments. Our first project was Henning Gardens in Top Valley, which comprised eight new two bedroom family homes, built on a former disused garage site.

More recently, we have been involved in the final site in this phase of the programme, which was completed in 2014. This development comprised 12 three-bedroom semi-detached family homes built on Windmill Close, a former brown field site.

In total approximately 200 linear meters of 900mm high metal flat top railings were manufactured and provided in a polyester powder coated black finish. Also three single leaf gates were installed in a design which matched the railings.

"Part of the requirements for this project involved Robert Woodhead committing to invest in Nottingham and to make sure 100% of the labour, plant and materials was sourced from within 20 miles of the site. Alpha Rail is a locally based manufacturer with an excellent reputation for quality and reliability. We have been really impressed with the level of their design expertise and the way they have met all deadlines.
