Thurstable School Sports College and Sixth Form Centre, based in Tiptree, Essex has over 1100 pupils. Part of the school grounds has been planted as a special memorial garden, providing a tranquil area dedicated to the memory of past pupils, teachers, friends of the school and national days of remembrance. The gardens are a quiet area to think and reflect.
The fencing around the area was austere and required updating. The aim was to ensure the gardens still remained, safe, secure and private, yet were still appealing and approachable to visit.
The school wanted to install traditional looking metal railings, but to also combine them with the rustic look and feel gained by incorporating oak sleepers.
Alpha Rail worked with the School Leadership team to understand their design ideas and create the bespoke look and feel they desired. In total 280m of 900mm high bow top panels and six various width gates were manufactured by Alpha Rail, which were supplied to the school who arranged for a local contractor to install them between the oak sleepers.
