Project Overview

Caludon Castle is a 14th Century ruin and a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade I listed building in Coventry. The estate is now an urban park, owned and run by Coventry City Council. In addition to the expanse of green space, the park facilities include a children’s play area; a teen’s area with youth shelter and a multi use games area that caters for five-a-side football, basketball, netball and tennis.

Alpha Rail Solution

In 2012, improvements were carried out on the play area, car park and entrances. Alpha Rail were appointed to manufacture the new entrances which had been designed in conjunction with local school children and “Friends of Caludon Castle Park”

The Alpha Rail team worked from the architectural drawings to manufacture bespoke architectural metalwork features that included a large feature vehicle gateway, with hinged archway to the main entrance and a smaller feature at the second pedestrian entrance.  The gateways featured a “George and the Dragon” bespoke design including pointed dragons tails and cut out lettering.  We also supplied over 40 metres of metal railings that incorporated bespoke finials and the laser cutting of decorative motifs to reflect the castle theme from squares of steel.

"Alpha Rail have extensive experience of liaising with architects and designers on heritage projects and we always respond positively to the design briefs that are provided. We bring many years of experience and knowledge of bespoke metal work to every project and ensure clients are pleased with the way we bring their ideas to life. "
