Project Overview

Alpha Rail was appointed to work on two projects that were part of the London 2012 Olympics which took place between 25 July and 12 August. Construction for the Games involved considerable redevelopment, and there was a firm emphasis on sustainability and ensuring the site would provide a lasting legacy and help the regeneration of the local community. The main focus was a new 200-hectare Olympic Park, constructed on a former industrial site at Stratford, East London.

Alpha Rail Solution

Volker Highways appointed us to provide decorative vertical bar railings, flat top railings and single leaf gates for blocks 1 & 7 of the Athletes Village.

As part of the regeneration programme, the Olympic Village design was based on being able to reuse the buildings after the games as a new residential district for Stratford. The area is now called East Village and comprises 2,818 homes, including 1,379 affordable homes.

We were also appointed by Morrison Construction to provide decorative flat top railings, decorative pedestrian guardrail, double leaf gates handrail and parapet for the Lee Valley White Water Centre. The venue cost £31m to build and has a purpose-built slalom course where the Olympic white-water canoe events were held.

"It is great to be able to finally talk about our involvement in such a prestigious project and that the work we have done is proving to be a lasting legacy for residents of East Village and users of the water park."

Phil Ball, Alpha Rail Sales Director
