Project Overview

This eight year, six-phase project to regenerate the Packington Estate in Islington, London is a £130m joint venture partnership between Rydon and housing association, the Hyde Group.

Construction, development, maintenance and management company Rydon is replacing 538 structurally defective flats with 791 mixed-tenure houses and flats.

The development also comprises 1,640m² of non-residential space, including a newly created canal side park, community centre, adventure playground and youth centre.

Alpha Rail Solution

Alpha Rail was appointed by Rydon to supply and install a wide range of architectural metalwork products over three phases of work commencing in 2010 until 2014. This included various height and styles of railings, gates and privacy screens. All materials were hot dip galvanised and polyester powder coated.

"All works on the project had to be carried out whilst residents were in occupation of old and new build properties. Alpha Rail was sensitive to this issue and worked with Rydon to meet all deadlines. We ensured the site surveys, and the manufacture, supply and installation of the new metal railings and gates went smoothly and without disruption. The new railings have definitely improved the appearance of this area and helped us achieve the objective of opening access routes and reconnecting the community with the surrounding area."
