Project Overview

Overton House, located in Cheltenham town centre, has recently undergone extensive renovation. The re-development project provides a base for Barnwood Trust, a charitable foundation for those with disabilities and mental health issues.

The house provides both an office space for the Trust and a welcoming space for people who the Trust works with, including space for workshops and meetings.

One of the goals for this project was to restore the exterior of the building to comply with conservation requirements in line with the period aesthetic of the late 1800’s. Over time, new additions to the house had been built, which did not match the original building and were subsequently demolished. This helped in both restoring the house back to its original appearance while providing more space for staff and visitors to park.

Alpha Rail Solution

As part of the restoration works, new metal railings were required that would fit in with the rest of the building. Alpha Rail was contacted by E G Carter & Co Ltd to discuss the project and request a quote. In total, 83 linear metres of bespoke vertical bar railings were installed in various heights, featuring decorative finials for a more prestigious look. To further stylise the metalwork, vertical infills were diamond drilled directly into the wall coping instead of the traditional bottom rail, giving a much more effective and clean high-profile look. This option suited the rest of the house perfectly and looks as though they could’ve been the original railings!

"Alpha Rail has worked on numerous prestigious properties over our 35 years of experience. We are proud to provide a metalwork solution that has been effective in restoring Overton House back to its 1800's aesthetic."
