Project Overview

Westhouses Primary School is a small village school which provides primary education to seventy children aged between 4 to 11. The school building is over 110 years old but is spacious and very well maintained. The present accommodation consists of a hall, three classrooms, library area, office, staff-room and a school meals kitchen.

It has two main playgrounds and two grassed areas. There is also a large recreation ground next to the school which is used for sports and games.

The school wanted to provide a dedicated play area for reception class children by building a new entrance door from their classroom directly into the playground and needed to provide a safe and secure boundary around this part of the play area.

Alpha Rail Solution

Alpha Rail was appointed to manufacture and install metal railings and entrance gates to this designated area of the playground. We also had to work alongside other contractors who were installing play equipment and soft play surfaces, as well as builders who were carrying out alterations to the school wall to provide an access doorway from the classroom.

In total, Alpha Rail has supplied 50 metres of PlaySpec bow top metal railings and two double leaf access gates. The metalwork was supplied galvanized and polyester powder coated black to ensure longevity and protection against rust. The railings were securely rooted into concrete foundations into the tarmac playground or into grassed areas.

The installation of PlaySpec bow top metal railings has provided a safe boundary for children using industry recognized railings that prevent small heads and hands from becoming trapped in between the infill bars.

"Alpha Rail has an excellent reputation for providing school railings and gates. Their website showed many other similar installations and we have been delighted with the work they have completed. Their visits to survey our grounds showed they fully understood our needs. The installation ran smoothly and the project was completed exactly as we had hoped."
